Individualised learning is a powerful force for transformation

Our approach reflects our faith that each child is able to fulfil individual potential when placed in an environment suited to his/her needs. Our vision is to support human development, enabling individual children to fulfil their optimal potential in order to live safe, healthy and happy lives as independent adults. We aim to nurture each child to feel a sense of belonging and to be able to participate in society.
Our mission is to fulfil our vision by creating developmental spaces which offer both protection and opportunities. Carefully prepared by skilled adults, the learning environments are characterised by an ambiance of love. It is our belief that learning can only happen through gentle, safe and trusting relationships. Within this atmosphere our children are able to find their own place as individuals living, working and learning alongside others of mixed ages and abilities. Such individualised learning in a loving community is a powerful force for transformation.
Inspired by the philosophy and methodology of Dr. Maria Montessori, our environment is scientifically designed and offers children concrete learning materials to enable understanding of concrete concepts. Rooted in respect for individual learning styles, our environment provides multi-sensory materials, freedom of movement, and self-directed activities which encourage exploration and mastery without pressure. The physical environment is pleasant, uncluttered, ordered and calm with clear signage to assist children. Children progress at their own pace and are supported to define and create their own projects. Our curriculum is broad, balanced and engaging, offering choices and opportunities for children to follow personal interests.
This approach of active learning is supported by a range of therapies introduced by trained specialists. It is implemented through individualised health, care and learning plans introduced in a respectful environment filled with multiple opportunities for self-expression. Our method of introduction to literacy and numeracy is with the goal of giving the children tools of navigation in society. Our aim is to foster independence – physical, functional, mental, moral, social, and intellectual – enabling each child to reach his/her individual goal.
The values which underpin our vision are rooted in British values of respect and tolerance for oneself, for others, and for the environment. Each child is supported to gain self-knowledge, becoming aware of personal strengths, recognising when and how to ask for help, and understanding right conduct in community interactions.
We believe in the power of Nature, and through outdoor experiences in woodland, with plants and with animals, our children develop a deep appreciation for the natural world, fostering curiosity, responsibility, a sense of wonder, and a feeling of wellbeing.
Whilst we acknowledge the benefits of digital technology, we prioritise human connections and a duty to be fully present. Our approach fosters meaningful interactions and real-world experiences that go beyond the screen. We are, therefore, a smartphone-free school, and children are introduced to digital skills at an appropriate time in their development.
Our aim is to foster independence – physical, functional, mental, intellectual, moral, social and spiritual -enabling each child to reach his/her individual goal. Children are empowered to find their own voice and make their own choices on their learning journey.
